The smelting furnaces of Redebus Pass

At Redebus Pass, between the Piné Plateau and the Valle del Fersina, a series of nine smelting furnaces have come to light which can be traced back to the Bronze Age (13th - 11th centuries B.C.E.). As one can deduce from the enormous quantities of slag found nearby, this is the most important prehistoric site for the fusion of copper found to date in an alpine environment. The site will soon be accessible to visitors.
